Bumble Bees at Risk from the Canadian and American public registry
This series is in progress.
Process:
First I draw the endangered species, then I collage on the drawing for the bumble bees and, separate for the birds. I introduce human body parts and consumer products: we are responsible for their loss of habitat and decline (pesticides contribute as well) such that by merging the human with birds I give them a "second life". Moreover, I choose media images of people of colour to emphasize that life is more difficult for them and that both issues are urgent: biodiversity and social change
There are over 90 birds in Canada and also over 90 in the US, a lot of species appearing on both lists.
With the act of drawing I have developed empathy for them and I would like to transfer that emotion to the viewer. The hybrid figures are presented as an installation of laser cut figures with an exoskeleton of plexiglass (acrylic).
