Opening reception July 25, 6-8 pmMigrations of the Arthropods is a summer exhibition presenting a 2012 summer experience as the artist entered the water in New York City. The exhibition presents four video loops and photographs documenting the artist's journey as she prepares for global warming. During this process she builds wearable structures with recycled plastic bottles and various containers in order to transform herself into an insect, a species that will thrive with climate change. With the floating apparatus, she is ready to enter the water. In this piece, Paul proposes a reversal of Kafka's Metamorphosis – where being an insect is a tragedy – and presents it here as a strategy or a way to adapt. Dominique Paul was awarded a five month residency on Governors Island by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
