PORTFOLIO > Air Quality Performance with an interactive dress

The interactive dress displays the air quality color code where I am standing in a public space. The combination of a unique design and color lights trigger passersby interaction: if air quality affects their life such as asthma being experienced around them it will incite them to tell their stories. The air quality dress may raise the awareness level of the connection between air quality and health issues.

The challenge was to find a portable device to measure one aspect of air quality. I have chosen the Air Beam which displays the number of small particles in the air (PPM 2.5). Small particles get in the bloodstream as we breathe, they are too small to be stopped. They may cause breathing illness but also hearth disease and cancer. There is also pollen which is a natural small particle. In general, children and women are more affected by poor air quality and the air quality will be getting worse with climate change.
